DNV GL predicts that the demand for solar photovoltaic power generation is expected to be 28 million gigawatts per year (PWh/year) in 2050, which is 60 times higher than in 2020 and is expected to account for 40% of the energy structure.
However, the current highest efficiency of crystalline silicon solar cells in the laboratory has reached 26.7%, almost approaching its theoretical efficiency ceiling. To break the traditional conversion efficiency of crystalline silicon, there are only two options: one is to use new processes, and the other is to search for new materials.
